1、 Preparation for Replacing the Oil Filter

Confirm replacement cycle: Determine the replacement cycle of the oil filter based on the type of oil used and the vehicle manufacturer's recommendations.

Prepare tools and materials: Prepare tools and materials such as oil filter wrench, new oil filter, engine oil, oil drain pan, gloves, etc.

2、 The Old Oil Should be Drained When Replacing the Oil Filter

Find the oil drain plug: Find the oil drain plug at the bottom of the engine, usually located at the lowest point of the oil pan.

Remove the drain plug: Use a suitable tool (such as a wrench) to rotate the drain plug counterclockwise and remove it. Be careful to avoid burns, as the engine oil may be very hot.

Drain old engine oil: After removing the drain plug from the oil pan, the old engine oil will flow out. Place the drain pan under the drain plug to collect old engine oil.

Clean and install the drain plug: After draining, wipe the contact surface between the drain plug and the oil pan with a clean cloth, and then reinstall the drain plug according to the specified tightening torque (usually 30N · m).

3、 Replace the Oil Filter

Find the oil filter: Find the location of the oil filter on the engine. It is usually located at the front or side of the engine.

Loosen the old oil filter: Use an oil filter  wrench to gently loosen the old oil filter. Be careful not to apply too much force to avoid damaging the threads of the filter or connecting parts.

Remove the old oil filter: When the filter becomes loose, manually remove it from the oil filter bracket. Be careful not to let old engine oil splash onto your body or the surrounding environment.

Prepare a new oil filter: Apply a layer of engine oil on the O-ring of the new oil filter to ensure sealing performance.

Install new oil filter: Use your hand to screw the new oil filter onto the oil filter bracket until the O-ring of the filter is in close contact with the installation surface. Then, use an oil filter wrench to tighten the filter to the specified torque (usually 15N · m). During the tightening process, attention should be paid to identifying the precise position of the initial contact between the filter O-ring and the installation surface to ensure the accuracy of the filter installation position.

4、 Inspect and Clean the Oil Filter

Check filter installation: Ensure that the oil filter is correctly installed and tightened. Check for oil leakage around the filter.

Cleaning the work area: Properly dispose of old engine oil and filters, and clean the work area to ensure that there is no oil residue.

5、 Precautions for Replacing the Oil Filter

The engine oil and oil filter should be replaced simultaneously: this is beneficial for extending the service life of the engine.

Use appropriate tools and materials: Ensure to use the correct oil filter wrench and the required oil.

Avoid damaging the connection parts: Be careful during disassembly and installation to avoid damaging the threads or sealing gaskets of the connection parts.

Check the oil level: After replacing the oil filter, check whether the oil level meets the requirements. The amount of oil added should not be too much or too little, and the oil model should be the same as the oil previously added.
